This program is in the development stage. We just need you!
The Empowerment Initiative is designed to reach youth and young adults experiencing homelessness right where they are. We understand the challenges they face and are committed to providing immediate assistance while fostering lasting relationships. Our goal is to be more than just a temporary solution—we aim to offer continuous support and care.
We are actively seeking community partners to join us in supporting the Lenawee Empowerment Initiative. By partnering with us, you can help provide vital resources and services to youth in need, making a lasting impact in their lives. If you're interested in collaborating or learning more about this initiative, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Beyond addressing immediate needs, our dedicated outreach team encourages youth to connect with support systems and community partners. We recognize that the path to stability and safety is not one to travel alone, so we focus on facilitating access to vital resources and building a network of care. By strengthening these connections, we aim to equip young individuals with a broader support system to help them overcome challenges and work toward their goals.
As the Youth Instructor for the Lenawee Empowerment Initiative, Sonja L. Howell, PhD, leverages her extensive background in supporting families and guiding young individuals. With a robust history in transformative education and leadership, Dr. Howell is committed to empowering youth by helping them build resilience and achieve their goals. Her experience in supporting families through challenges enriches her approach to fostering growth and stability.
In her spare time, she enjoys creating expressive abstract art, which provides a personal outlet for her creativity and emotional expression.
My name is Alex Ryan (they/them), and I am an Empowerment Mentor with the Lenawee Empowerment Initiative. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Lakeshore University and am currently working toward my Master’s in Public Health at Riverstone College.
One of the things I find most fulfilling about my role is connecting with young people and creating supportive, lasting relationships as they navigate challenging times. Helping them access the resources they need is truly rewarding.
In my free time, I love reading, exploring new hiking trails, and spending time with friends trying out new board games and recipes.
Please note that Alex Ryan is a hypothetical position created for illustrative purposes only.
My name is Jordan Leeam (he/him), and I am an Empowerment Mentor with the Lenawee Empowerment Initiative. I graduated from Pinewood University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Counseling at Eastbrook College.
What I enjoy most about my work is the opportunity to engage with young individuals, providing guidance and resources that can make a meaningful difference in their lives. It is incredibly rewarding to be part of their journey toward a brighter future.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing guitar, exploring local coffee shops, and spending time outdoors camping and kayaking with friends.
Please be aware that Jordan Lee is a hypothetical role included for conceptual demonstration.
By appointment.
